Nooksack Tribe to receive grant money for salmon restoration work

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – The Washington State Salmon Recovery Funding Board has announced $21 million dollars in grants to help salmon recovery in the state.

Whatcom County is among the 29 counties receiving funding with a grant of $743,000.

The majority of this grant will go to the Nooksack Indian Tribe and their efforts to restore parts of the South Fork Nooksack River north of Acme.

The Tribe will place 14 logjams in the river to create areas for salmon to rest, feed, and hide from predators, while also reducing erosion.
