More details emerge about Catawba Two Kings Casino expansion and construction timeline

Last week, the Catawba Nation announced an expansion to double the size of the gaming floor at the Catawba Two Kings Casino’s pre-launch facility. It appears the tribe is now preparing to begin the first full phase of the casino in the coming months.

Jason Falls , business development director for Cleveland County, gave a presentation earlier this week to the Cleveland County Board of Commissioners. Falls’ presentation gave an update on the project and shared for the first time a plan for the first full casino phase. He also discussed more specifics about the pre-launch facility expansion.

The pre-launch facility is unofficially averaging 2,500 daily visitors, which would be a pace of 900,000 visitors per year, he said. The expansion of the pre-launch facility, which will add 500 more gaming machines there, is expected to be complete by Dec. 15. Falls said the tribe is pushing to have it finished before Thanksgiving.

The tribe opened the pre-launch facility on July 1 to operate until the full casino phases are open. Falls said he was sharing plans approved by project leaders and that the beginning of the first full phase could follow closely after the expansion.

Falls showed plans for a two-floored building that will serve as phase one of the full casino. The county originally permitted a 60,000-square-foot building for the introductory phase, Falls said, but plans have changed. The first phase of the full casino would be several hundred thousand square feet, he said.
